We envision excellent facilities, activities, and services available for all young people. We see every young person in our local communities as active, healthy, and thriving within a supportive environment. We see inspired young people who have the confidence to learn and achieve, who feel able to talk about life’s challenges, are respected for who they are, and are empowered to make a positive contribution to society.
To improve the life chances of young people by working together to provide high-quality facilities, activities, and services that support their development and wellbeing.
The story of South Northants Youth Engagement (SNYE) is the culmination of over a decade of youth work in South Northamptonshire. After the countywide Youth Service was decommissioned in 2006–07, funding cuts forced local youth centres to close and voluntary sector contracts to shrink, leaving many organisations struggling or closing entirely. Despite this, groups such as NAYC continued supporting local youth clubs, sustaining provision where possible.
In 2015, Towcester Youth Strategy Forum was established, bringing together local groups to champion and promote youth activities. Members organised showcase events, conducted surveys, and raised funds, providing vital support to young people. Similar efforts in Brackley followed in 2017, responding to a growing population, new housing developments, and the closure of the Hub Youth Café.
Recognising the need for dedicated coordination, NAYC alongside support from South Northants Council employed a part-time Youth Coordinator in 2018, while the forums worked toward charitable status to secure funding, partnerships, and sustainable youth provision. The forums became steering groups, Towcester Youth Engagement and Brackley Youth Engagement, under the new charity SNYE.
Since its first community event in 2017, SNYE has grown to provide youth clubs, play and activity days, and vital resources across the district, ensuring that young people have access to safe, engaging, and high-quality opportunities to learn, socialise, and thrive.
